Changes Coming to Canada
As of September 2024, the government of Canada has announced changes to the PGWP program. These changes include:
- Graduates from programs at public colleges will remain eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) of up to three years if they graduate from a field of study linked to occupations in long-term shortage.
- As part of changes to the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program, all applicants must demonstrate a minimum language proficiency in either French or English. This requirement aims to enhance their ability to transition to permanent residence and adapt to changing economic conditions. From November 1, 2024, onwards, individuals applying for a post-graduation work permit will need to meet the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 for university graduates and CLB 5 for college graduates.
- The intake cap for study permits for the 2025-2026 period will now include master's and doctoral students who are required to submit a provincial or territorial attestation letter.
